Authenticity

 Hi everyone!

Soooo… all this confinement leads to much thinking and, also, gives us T I M E all of a sudden. Therefore, I might succeed in feeding my blog with some long promised stuff…:)

A while ago, one of my „brothers from other parents“ asked me what makes me „like“ a band or an artist. Just like that, out of the blue (or rather ‘because that’s what he does’). So, even if I was kind of surprised, I told that one of the best things is when you notice that it´s authentic, that the artist or band is not trying to spread some artificial or popular message, but that what she/he/they perform is something that matters to her/him/them.

Of course that is not only valid for artists 🙂 After the discussion, the topic popped up in my mind a several times and I came to think ‚okay – so authenticity is one of the things that makes people shine their light… but WHAT does it mean to be authentic?‘

Well, the definition of ‚authenticity‘ given by the Cambridge Dictionary has nothing surprising nor anything creative as it is simply ‚the quality of being real or true‘.

Well, thank you Captain Obvious!

But yeah, since I think that it is an important characteristic not only for autographs or documents, but mostly also for humans, I was wondering what it could mean concretely. If we’d take off our masks and allow others to see our most authentic selves, what would remain ?

For my part, I must say that the situations I recall where I was feeling closest to myself (and thus where I maybe was the most authentic) were moments where I tried to make others understand that we all might have our flaws and our struggles, but there is still much positivity and beauty to be found ! It’s about the situations where my behaviour, my actions and the values I want to stand for are kind of balanced.

Recently I’ve noticed though that even with knowing that, it can be very very easy to drift away from the « authentic self ». Sometimes it is easy to get upset and have reactions that don’t bring us closer to the goals we’ve set us. I really think that happens to everyone and it is something we have to learn to accept. But, more importantly, we have to remember that even if that happens, it’s also possible to recentre, try to get back on track and focus on what matters.

I wish that we learn to recognize the moments and persons where we can let our true colours shine and share our most authentic selves (despite our natural desire of self-protection).

So… now comes the curious smurf part… : what do you think authenticity is about ? Have you already found out what it is that makes your soul shine its light ? Feel free to share !

Much of love & many airhugs to all of you. We’re in these strange times together ❤

Stay home, be nice to yourself & to others, and most importantly: stay healthy!
